International consortium submits programme application for a climate resilient East Atlantic Flyway
A consortium of ten international organisations led by the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS) and supported by 15 political partners submitted a programme outline application to the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The proposed programme “Climate Resilience for Critical Sites for Migratory Birds and People along the East Atlantic Flyway” will support migratory birds and people living in 13 countries along the flyway against risks of climate related impacts. Those countries are Angola, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Marocco, Namibia, Nigeria, the Russian Federation, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. With the IKI-programme, the Wadden Sea Flyway Initiative wants to continue almost ten years of cooperation of the Wadden Sea World Heritage with partner countries along the East Atlantic Flyway on migratory bird conservation.
The consortium is made up by the following organisations: AEWA, BirdLife International, BirdsRussia, CWSS, IBAP, Parc National du Banc d'Arguin, PRCM, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, and Wetlands International. The approval of the outline is prerequisite for a full programme application in a 2nd stage.
